Crooked Weather at Dog With Two Tails - Free Entry

Crooked Weather are a rock infused folk band, based out of whatever rusty vehicle they can beg, steal or borrow and fueled by the new people and places they meet whilst being on the road.

They hail from the depths of East Yorkshire, England, but over the last 2 years have toured the lengths and breadths of Ireland, New Zealand, U.S., England and Holland. Their original songs, steeped somewhere in the folk revival of the late 60's, have a raw, modern edge, with the lilting harmonies of Holly & Will at the core.

Building up a reputation for their live shows, they've supported the likes of Jeffrey Lewis, Micheal Chapman, Mike Heron (Incredible String Band), Jim Jones, Dick Gaughan, Roddy Woomble & Bridget St. John along their way.

Thirsty for the road again, they head to Australia and New Zealand on their 'Paper Roads Tour' where they have more than 30 shows lined up for the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018. They will also have some of their most recent and currently unreleased studio recordings following in tow.

"They are indie meets World music meets traditional British folk. Think a contemporary Incredible String Band with a 21st century mindset or the acoustic side of Led Zeppelin.” - Sid Griffin (Bob Dylan Biographer // BBC 6 Music)

Girlboss EP Release Party w/ Jack Berry - Free Entry

Girlboss will visit Dog with Two Tails in Dunedin for the release party for its debut EP Body Con: a small run of cassettes through Wellington label Ball of Wax.

girlboss will be joined by the splendid Jack Berry.

Early comments from the studio engineer are that he’s “really digging where it is,” with Olivia’s focused drumming, Darian’s ornamental guitar lines, and Douglas’s bass “defined with string noise” supporting Lucy’s voice, which has “unusual harmonics.”

Dub Cymatics NZ Tour - $5 Entry

What isn't possible, when two multi-instrumental, one-man-bands combine with an Ableton genius?

The Brunswick Space Agency presents, for the first time in New Zealand, Dub Cymatics, fresh out of the Australasian melting pot and built upon utilising the potential of midi-synced live looping. Two independently touring musicians, Erin (NZ), and Sid (NSW) link and sync their pedals (think Tash Sultana plus Ed Sheeran) and then mix live acoustic and electronic instruments (guitar, clarinet, keys, and trumpet) with drum samples and beatboxing to create everything from dubby reggae soundscapes to thumping live dance tracks. Melbourne-based producer and DJ Kayboku adds a generous portion of deliciously tasty Drum and Bass flavours to the mix, and the result is: “Like Fat Freddy’s Drop but with a chick singer”, or “A cool mashup between Kimbra and John Butler”.

Inspired to create conscious atmospheres that are enjoyable and uplifting, in both lyrical and musical content, the contrast between Sid’s funky, progressive style and Erin's signature vocal harmonies and leads build dynamic. Springing from a love of Reggae, Dub and Roots music, their sound is fresh and evolving, inspired by Australasian influences Shapeshifter, Salmonella Dub, Blue King Brown and The Upbeats, to name a few.

They’ve already clocked a chart-topper, with ‘Dance ’til Tomorrow’ (their debut single) hitting #1 on the Triple J Unearthed Dance Chart within a month of hitting the site as a brand new act, 'Truth' wasn't far behind and the band held the top two spots for a week. They’re garnering the attention of industry as well as winning new fans at every gig, the kind that travel hundreds of kilometers to see the next show. Dub Cymatics just have a magic mix that will transfix you, and thats great, because you'll definitely want to keep an eye on this dynamic trio.

Their first gig was opening for Sydney’s The Mavericks and the Kava Kings, before confidently embarking upon what’s possibly the biggest summer tour of New Zealand in 2018. Kicking off in January, Dub Cymatics hit the South Island first to great response.
In early February they hit the North Island to support Byron Bay’s International Dancehall Collective the 4’20 Sound for four shows of their own NZ tour.

With almost fifty dates locked in around the country, they’re undoubtedly hitting a venue near you within the next few months. Shows will be everything from soulful, passionate jams featuring solo sets from both artists, to all-night dance parties featuring cutting edge, original productions and visual effects.

You can check out their two singles on Soundcloud: ‘Truth’ was written and recorded just for the tour, and features a timeline of their adventures throughout Aotearoa. There’s an album in the pipeline, with another single set to drop within the next few weeks. Rumour has it that 2018 will also see Dub Cymatics hit the northern hemisphere, for a European tour as well, but details are yet to be released. Keep an eye on the website for more details, www.dubcymatics.com.

Catch ‘em while you can, and let Dub Cymatics shape your soul and energise you with the best vibrations.

$5 on the door.

Kalidad - Koha

Kallidad is returning to Dog With Two Tails for another HUGE SHOW! Last time was so packed you couldn't walk in the venue! Hopefully this time will be just as wild!
Day of the Dead “Flamingo Fiesta” trio Kallidad began partly as a joke, and partly by accident. From humble beginnings, a world class headining act has evolved in the most unlikely form all instrumental, Kallidad do not need to utter one word to create a bond with their audience, combining Spanish guitar styles with Heavy Metal roots to create a once in a lifetime sound that has seen the group visit Europe, Japan, Indonesia and New Zealand. Kallidad is one of Australia’s hardest working bands, constantly crisscrossing the great southern land, spreading their music and engaging with the land itself. The lineup is simple two Spanish guitars and percussion. But don’t let the lightweight set up fool you!The group has released three albums independently. The most recent, 2017’s “The Odyssey” was also accompanied by a vinyl record and even a hardcover book detailingthe band’s journey to create the album. Festivals such as Splendor in the Grass, Falls Festival, Party in the Paddock and other mainstream festivals, plus many smaller indie events, have booked Kallidad, easily spotting the group’s formidable talent. Kallidad was also voted “Most Popular Band” at Italy’s Ferrara Festival the world’s premier street music competition! The three amigos live and breathe music and their live show is a testament to their obsession with the craft of connection.

The album was lauded by Pitchfork as "pitch-perfect chamber pop" and by American Songwriter as "the perfect introduction to her orchestral brand of rock-tinged indie pop and her sweeping, singular voice."

The Raskolnikovs - Free Entry

The Raskolnikovs: Brute in the brain tour 2018
It's been 15 years can you believe?!
3 EPs; 1 LP; 5 NZ tours; 1 Oz adventure; 1 British implosion; 4 past members (that are ever present); too many bottles of beer to count; and hundreds of shows in every alcove and alley in Wellington. But we're still playing that risky blend of gothic polka folk and rock n' roll that no other band hit upon... (Gogol Bordello? No. Anyway we were first!)
This will be a good-time greatest hits tour in all our favourite towns (sorry AK & Barrytown-next time!).
Featuring appearances by friends we have met along the way. We love you and can't wait to see you again - this January!

Blue Child Collective - $10 Tickets

Heads up, documentary number two from West Aussie fluid groovers Blue Child Collective coming at you.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/FAr7rFU0fg4

"Building The Boat, Sailing The Seas – The Making Of Saturn Saw The Seaside”, their latest colab with globetrotting videographer David Owen Blackley of Her Name Is Murder Productions, delves into the creation of the Collective’s third record, captured on the Mediterranean island of Corsica off the south coast of France last year.

The album, a 13-track effort featuring a 36pg illustrated booklet by Kiwi artist Pillow Talk following the story of front man Dan White on a whirlwind sea voyage off the edge of the planet and off through the cosmos, “Saturn Saw The Seaside” has seen the Collective knock out close to 200 shows across Europe and Australia over the last year, bringing both full band dance offs and intimate duo performances to a rapidly growing global following.

Shot on location over the course of the production, the documentary offers insight on the album’s creation, exploring the story behind the story and featuring interviews with the artists involved, plus behind the scenes footage of the studio and day to day life in lockdown at the enchanting Studio L’Angelina, high in the Corsican mountains.

Fresh from a 40 date Australian Tour to promote their latest music video “Bungalow Baby”, Blue Child Collective are set to sail this release across the Tasman for their first ever New Zealand Tour, totalling 14 intimate duo performances across the two islands on a huge first expedition featuring returning Kiwi artist Emjay Angeni

Said to "evoke the gentle rhythms and roaring freedom of Australia’s seaside" (Happy Mag), lovers of Jack JohnsonXavier Rudd - Official, Angus & Julia Stone and John Butler will delight in the conscious folk-roots-jazz-funk songcraft showcased by “Saturn Saw The Seaside” and highlighted by the Collective’s duo performances through Aotearoa.
